“Sustainability”, that is a word all of us have now become familiar with. With more and more people understanding the threats of climate change, sustainability is no longer just a thought or advice. It has now become a way of life.

Brands and organisations which previously used excessive amounts of fossil fuels and plastics are now mending their ways for a better tomorrow.

And to amplify their efforts almost every brand now has sustainability marketing and sustainability reports.

Let’s dive in with Cool Gai and his mood-dy gang to check out all about branding with sustainability.

KEEPING THE PLANET FRESH AND CLEAN

Dream of para-para-paradise

In a never-before-seen concept in the music industry, pop-rock band Coldplay released a sustainability report. Yup, you heard that right.

Recognising the significant environmental impact of global tours, Coldplay aimed to minimise their carbon footprint. Through innovative solutions and fan engagement, they've slashed their carbon emissions by 59% and planted 7 million trees (one for each concertgoer).

Fans powered shows with kinetic dance floors and bikes, and even recycled those famous LED wristbands.

Coldplay's commitment to sustainability is setting a high note for the entire music industry. Let’s keep this Hymn of sustainability going, not just for the weekend, but for the future to come!

THE BRAINY APPROACH TO SPEED

Sustainability at the pinnacle of motorsport

Formula 1 describes itself as “Engineered Insanity”. It is when man and machine are pushed beyond the laws of physics to achieve unbelieving speeds of over 300kmph.

F1 has evolved with the time, becoming faster, smarter and safer. Eventually however, the sport understood that it needed to be a lot more planet-friendly but at the same time keep the show going. Big strides were taken, and new regulations were introduced every few years in the spirit of eco-friendliness. But then it took on a full challenge: become net zero by 2030 and race on completely sustainable fuel. And we know they will achieve it!

Echoing these efforts, former World Champion Sebastian Vettel launched his own campaign called #RaceWithoutTrace, promoting carbon neutral fuel.

THE QUIRKY CLEANING
COMPETITION

Clean out the sea and have a chilled one!

Despite the name association with the pandemic, Corona stayed on top as the world’s most valuable beer label in 2020, proving that this brand won’t go down that easy. Then, they channelled that energy for good.

Known for their eco-friendly stance, Corona launched the Plastic Fishing Tournament to tackle plastic pollution in the oceans. They sponsored the event where fishermen snagged plastic out of the sea, earning some cash and cleaning up the ocean while they were at it.

In just a few hours, 80 fishermen hauled over 3 tons of plastic from the Pacific Ocean!

The event debuted in Mazatlán, Mexico, with the top angler scoring a sweet payday and everyone getting rewarded. Post-tournament, the plastic was recycled into tools for fishermen.

This event was a hit, winning multiple awards, including Grand Clios and Creative Marketer of the Year at Cannes Lions 2022.

So, why did it work? Well, events like this can create a major buzz and make a meaningful impact if they tie into a bigger purpose. Corona had already been on a mission to tackle plastic pollution, and this tournament was just one piece of the puzzle.

Sustainability is COOL!

As in, it literally cools the planet down and is a necessary step in the fight against climate change and global warming.

So, let's continue to support and celebrate brands that prioritise sustainability and be inspired to make our own efforts towards a cleaner, greener world.
